About RMFTN

Our mission is to build a strong community by linking systemic practitioners in Colorado and Wyoming. We are dedicated to fostering the growth of emerging professionals, providing legal and ethical education, supporting clinical and professional advancement at all career stages, and amplifying local advocacy efforts.

Mission and Vision

Our vision is to create an inclusive network of marriage and family therapists recognized as leaders in mental health. We aim to enhance care quality through innovative education, robust advocacy, and support for practitioners, positively impacting individuals, families, and communities.

Our History

When the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy (AAMFT) transitioned from state divisions to interest networks, the Colorado Association for Marriage and Family Therapy (COAMFT) recognized the potential risk to the valuable support they had provided to Colorado MFTs. In response, COAMFT championed the establishment of the Rocky Mountain Family Therapy Network (RMFTN) in February 2018.

RMFTN continues the legacy of providing essential ethical guidance, networking opportunities, and professional growth resources for systemic professionals not only in Colorado but across the Rocky Mountain region. Given our vast geographical area, we are committed to continuously developing and refining opportunities to connect our members and address their professional needs.

What we do

At the Rocky Mountain Family Therapy Network, we provide vital resources and support for marriage and family therapists across Colorado and Wyoming. Our initiatives include facilitating professional development through workshops and seminars, offering ethical and legal guidance, and creating networking opportunities to strengthen connections among practitioners. We are dedicated to advancing the field by nurturing new professionals, advocating for the profession, and ensuring that our members have access to the latest information and best practices. Through our efforts, we strive to enhance the quality of care provided to individuals, couples, and families in our region.

Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Statement

At the Rocky Mountain Family Therapy Network, we embrace diversity as a fundamental aspect of our community, recognizing the vast spectrum of identities and experiences that enrich our field. We are committed to fostering inclusion by valuing each individual's unique contributions and ensuring equitable access to roles, resources, and opportunities. Our goal is to create a culture of belonging, respect, and innovation, where all members feel empowered and supported. Through continuous efforts to identify and eliminate barriers, we strive to promote equity and uphold the highest standards of excellence for all.

What is a Marriage and Family Therapist?

Marriage and family therapists (MFTs) are mental health professionals trained in psychotherapy and family systems, licensed to diagnose and treat mental and emotional disorders within the context of marriage, couples, and family systems. MFTs are experienced practitioners who address a wide array of relationship issues, mental and emotional disorders, and other health and behavioral problems within the family system context. They adopt a holistic perspective on health care, focusing on the long-term well-being of individuals and their families.

Fully Licensed MFTs hold advanced graduate degrees (Master's or Doctoral) in marriage and family therapy and possess at least two years of clinical experience. MFT Candidates have completed their education and practice under supervision. Recognized as a core mental health profession alongside psychiatry, psychology, social work, and psychiatric nursing, MFTs have significantly grown in number, treating over 1.8 million people at any given time since 1970.

What is a Geographical Interest Network?

AAMFT’s Geographic Engagement Programs are designed to enhance member experiences by focusing on advocacy, education, and networking with a local touch. Members can join programs in various U.S. states and Canadian provinces, gaining opportunities to engage in leadership roles, vital advocacy efforts, and peer or training relationships. Joining a Geographic Engagement Program like RMFTN provides a valuable way to enhance and expand your professional membership.
